Late Inning Surge Powers Tobs to Victory

July 6, 2012 - Coastal Plain League (Coastal Plain)
Wilson Tobs News Release

WILSON, N.C - The Wilson Tobs scored eight runs over its last two at bats to break open a tie ballgame in the bottom of the seventh inning and down the Wilmington Sharks, 9-2 on Friday night at Historic Fleming Stadium.

Wilson (13-21, 4-2) loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh frame against Sharks reliever Aaron Hoover (L, 2-2) and later scored all three runs when Jackson Slaid delivered a double to the gap in right centerfield to give the Tobs a lead they would not relinquish.

After Wilmington (18-14, 2-3) scored a run in the top of the eighth inning to cut the margin to two runs at 4-2.

However, that would be as close as the Sharks would get as the Tobs scored five runs in their final trip to the plate including a two-run single from Zack Lee to but open the game and propel the Tobs to their third straight victory.

Meanwhile, for the second start in-a-row, Brett Ash (W, 3-1) was dazzling for Wilson as he kept the Sharks off balance all night working eight strong innings allowing just one earned run.

Wilson hits the road on Saturday night when they take on the Florence RedWolves but will return to Fleming Stadium on Tuesday at noon when they take on the Edenton Steamers.
