Morehead City Marlins News Release

MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. - In two seven-inning games as part of a doubleheader the Morehead City Marlins (2-4 second half, 12-21 overall) took the first game from the Fayetteville SwampDogs (3-2 second half, 21-12 overall) in walk-off fashion 7-4 before dropping game two 6-2 Friday evening at Big Rock Stadium.

In game one Sal Annunziata hit a walk-off, three-run home run to propel the Marlins to a 7-4 victory. The home run was the second three-run blast for Annunziata in the game, after he launched a dinger off the top of the scoreboard in the third inning.

Fayetteville scored in the top of the first of game one before the Marlins answered in the bottom half with one of their own on an RBI-ground out by Sam Ott. Then the SwampDogs scored three in the top of the third before Annunziata answered the next half-inning to make the score 4-4. The score held until Annunziata's walk-off blast sent the Marlins to the nightcap on a high note.

Lost in the dramatics was the gutsy outing of Taylor Robinson (3-2) who picked up the win, tossing a complete game while allowing four runs on nine hits in seven innings. Stephen Frey (3-2) took the loss in one inning of relief.

Game two started off well for Fayetteville, as again they plated a run in the top of the first. They then scored three runs in the fourth inning on just one hit before tacking on another run in the top of the fifth to take a commanding 5-0 lead.

The Marlins scored their first run of the game in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI-single by Corey Bass. After the "˜Dogs plated their sixth run in the seventh frame, Morehead City closed the scoring on a pinch-hit sacrifice fly to center field from Matt Anderson to make the score 6-2.

Kyle Norville (2-0) tossed a complete game for the SwampDogs in the nightcap, going seven innings and allowing two runs on six hits. Tyler Maxwell (0-2) suffered the loss, throwing 3+ innings, allowing one hit, three runs and walking five.

Between the two games Annunziata and Ott each had three hits for Morehead City, as Annunziata drove in six runs in total while Ott scored twice.

The Marlins are back on the field tomorrow evening when they travel to Wilmington to take on the Sharks. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. with the live broadcast on CPL WebPass beginning approximately 10 minutes prior to first pitch.
