Late Goal Leads Cedar Rapids Past Storm, 4-3

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Center Nick Saracino's goal with 3:05 left in regulation pushed the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders past the Tri-City Storm 4-3 in a back-and-forth contest Saturday night at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena.

Cedar Rapids (12-11-7, 31 pts - 5th in Eastern Conference) opened the scoring 9:01 into the first period on an unassisted goal scored by LW Thomas Forgione.

Tri-City (11-19-0, 22 pts - 8th in Western Conference) responded less than 1:14 following Forgione's goal on an unassisted goal from RW Michael Vecchione for his fifth goal of the season. It was the first goal for Vecchione since November 13 against Lincoln.

The Storm took a brief lead in the second period at the 16:32 mark on C Tim Bonner's ninth goal of the season from RW Tim Lappin and LW Jared Linnell. Former Storm RW Davey Middleton scored 91-seconds later to tie the game for the RoughRiders.

In the third period, C Stu Wilson would score short-handed 48 seconds into the period after Middleton would set him up to give the RoughRiders second lead of the game.

The Storm would tie the game again on RW Joshua Henke's second goal of the season, as Henke would pick off a pass at the Cedar Rapids blue line and go in for a breakaway at the 14:08 mark in the third period.

Saracino would score soon after his faceoff win from D Ian Brady in the Storm's zone at the 16:55 mark. It was the 10th goal of the season and third game-winning goal for Saracino.

Storm G Pheonix Copley (8-12-0) made 25 saves on 29 shots in the loss for the Storm. G Jake Hildebrand (9-7-3) finished the game with 27 saves on 30 shots receiving the win for the RoughRiders.

Tri-City went 0-for-3 on the power play, while going 4-for-4 on the penalty kill.

The Storm return home for a pair of games next weekend against the Fargo Force. The Breeze 94.5 FM will air Friday night's game, while Classic Hits 98.9 FM will air Saturday's game with the Viaero Wireless Pre-Game Shows starting at 6:45 p.m. each night.
