Manitoba Moose News Release
Ryan Kesler's powerplay goal with 2:31 left in the third period, lifted the Manitoba Moose to a 2-1 win over the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks Saturday night. The game was Manitoba's eighth straight gaining a point and gave the club five out of six possible points on their three-game road trip.
As has been the pattern on this trip, it took the Moose only seconds to get their first penalty of the night. This time the culprit was Joe DiPenta, who received two minutes for high sticking at the ten second mark.
Throughout the opening frame, the Moose took four penalties as compared to the Ducks' two but were able to kill them all off.
After the first, shots were 15-9 in favour of the Ducks but the score remained 0-0.
Cincinnati came out flying in the second. Within the first five minutes, they were outshooting the Moose seven to one and carrying all the momentum. A roughing penalty to Wade Brookbank was what they needed to get some quality scoring chances.
One minute into the powerplay, Pierre Parenteau scored to break the ice for the Ducks as they were finally able to put one past Flaherty after 23 shots in the game's first 27 minutes. Stanislav Chistov and Michael Holmqvist assisted on the goal.
The Moose began to pick up their play towards the end of the period. Lee Goren potted a powerplay marker with 1:58 to play in the second. Jason King and Peter Sarno got the assists.
After two periods, the Moose had closed what was once a 23-10 shot gap. The shots heading into the final frame were 28-20 in favour of Cincinnati.
The third period saw more back-and-forth action between the two sides. Near the end of the period, Referee Dean Morton penalized Cincinnati's Zenon Konopka for boarding, putting the Moose on their sixth powerplay of the game.
On the ensuing man advantage, Ryan Kesler made no mistake as he potted his sixth goal of the year to make it a 2-1 game.
