Late Flurry Lifts Travs to Win in Corpus Christi

Corpus Christi, TX-The Arkansas Travelers avoided a sweep with a 6-3 victory on Tuesday night. Chase De Jong pitched shutout ball for the first six innings, matching zeros with Corpus Christi starter Josh James. Arkansas' offense awoke in the sixth facing reliever Framber Valdez and scored two runs in each of three consecutive innings to take control of the game. Art Warren worked out of trouble in the seventh, preserving the lead, before working a scoreless eighth. Matt Festa finished the game off with a perfect ninth. Every Trav batter had at least one hit with Chris Mariscal, Chuck Taylor, Joseph Odom and Adam Law all putting up multi-hit games.

Moments That Mattered

Beau Amaral, Chuck Taylor and Joey Curletta greeted Hooks' reliever Framber Valdez with three singles within the lefty's first four pitches to break the ice on the scoring.

Braden Bishop roped a double into the right field corner scoring a pair in the seventh.

With the tying run at third and go-ahead run at second, Art Warren struck out the final two Hooks hitters in the seventh inning to preserve the lead.

Chris Mariscal lined a triple just over the glove of the centerfielder driving in an insurance run in the eighth. Mariscal would then come home on a groundout by Seth Mejias-Brean.

After an off day Wednesday, the Travs begin an eight game homestand on Thursday night with the first of four against the Springfield Cardinals. It is Bark in the Ballpark with a Frisbee Giveaway and it is Gentleman and Ladies Theme Night. Righty Johendi Jiminian (1-0, 1.86) starts for Arkansas against righty Conner Greene (1-1, 3.52) for Springfield.
