CORPUS CHRISTI - A late error spurred a three-run rally by the Midland RockHounds to cost the Hooks in a 4-2 loss Tuesday at Whataburger Field.

Leading 2-1 in the eighth inning, Midland's Kevin Merrell singled with one out against reliever Carlos Sanabria. Luis Barrera then bounced a grounder to third, but Abraham Toro airmailed the throw and put runners on the corners. Sanabria threw a wild pitch on ball four to Mikey White, allowing the tying run to score.

Dairon Blanco grounded into a force out that brought home the go-ahead run, and Jonah Heim lofted an RBI single for the 4-2 lead and final. All three runs went unearned due to the costly error, though Sanabria (3-1) still was charged with his first loss with the Hooks.

It spoiled a scoreless start by Brandon Bailey, who allowed four hits with two strikeouts over 5.0 innings. He was pulled after just 64 pitches, 41 of which were strikes.

Both Corpus runs came in the third inning on back-to-back RBI singles by Abraham Toro and Seth Beer. But the Hooks didn't muster many more threats against starter James Naile, who surrendered six hits and two walks over 6.0 innings.

Zack Erwin (W, 3-2) and Kyle Finnegan (S, 7) combined to allow one hit with five punchouts over the final 3.0 innings.

Righty Carson LaRue (1-2, 5.85) goes in the rubber match for Corpus on Wednesday against righty Brian Howard (5-2, 2.48) with first pitch scheduled for 6:15 p.m.
