Late Charge Comes up Short in 4-2 Loss

CEDAR PARK, Texas - Matej Stransky scored late in the third to pull the Texas Stars within one, but the San Antonio Rampage skated away with a 4-2 victory on Tuesday night at H-E-B Center at Cedar Park.
Stransky's goal came with just over two minutes left in the third to make it a 3-2 Texas deficit, but that's as close as the Stars could get. The goal was Stransky's sixth point in as many games this season. Maxime Lagace suffered the loss for the Stars (2-3-1-0) stopping 28 of 31 shots. It was the first win of the season for the Rampage (1-4-0-0).
Texas continues their homestand on Friday against the Ontario Reign at 7:30 p.m. CST.
The Rampage opened up the scoring with a power play goal from Chris Bigras at 5:48 of the third. Texas knotted things up on a scrum in front where Mattias Backman tapped home his second of the season at 13:31, but three minutes later Gary Nunn pushed San Antonio back in front during a segment of 4-on-4 play.
San Antonio extended their lead to 3-1 with the second period's only goal when Sam Jardine's shot on the power play deflected off a Texas stick in front and past Lagace.
Travis Morin set up Stransky's one-time goal from the right circle to close the gap, but Rocco Grimaldi capped the scoring with an empty-net goal in the game's final minute.
The Stars went 0-for-3 on the power play. San Antonio finished 2-for-8. Both teams tallied 31 shots on goal.
Jeremy Smith started the game for the Rampage, stopping nine of 10 shots but left with an injury after the first. Spencer Martin earned the win in relief after stopping all 20 shots he faced.
