Somerset Patriots News Release
Bridgewater, New Jersey - The Somerset Patriots (18-28, 60-55) rallied late to come-from-behind and defeat the Lancaster Barnstormers (18-26, 42-72) 7-1 Tuesday evening at TD Bank Ballpark.
Lancaster struck first in the top of the third inning after Darian Sandford led off with a base hit, stole second, advanced to third on a groundout and scored on a passed ball. But Patriots starting pitcher Rick Teasley settled down after that point.
Teasley shut down Lancaster over the next four innings and finished his evening with seven frames of one-run baseball, one walk and seven strikeouts.
The Barnstormers carried a 1-0 lead into the bottom of the eighth inning, but that is when the Patriots turned the game around. Seven runs came home in the eighth, initiated by a throwing error from Lancaster shortstop Michael Martinez on a throw home off a Michael Ohlman ground ball.
Two batters later, with the bases-loaded, Michael Crouse drew a walk to give Somerset a 2-1 lead. An RBI single from Rey Navarro, another bases-loaded walk to Yovan Gonzalez, a two-run single from Scott Kelly and an Alfredo Rodriguez RBI single topped off the scoring in the eighth.
The seven-run inning tied the most runs scored in an inning by the Patriots this season. They had plated seven runs in an inning two other this year.
Nate Roe (W, 3-2) earned the win with a scoreless inning of relief. Logan Sawyer (L, 1-1) allowed four runs (three earned) without recording an out to suffer the loss.
The 2019 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford continues on Wednesday, August 28th against the Lancaster Barnstormers. The night will feature special appearances from Super Bowl champion New York Giants Stephen Baker and Otis Anderson. For tickets, stop by the box office located at TD Bank Ballpark, call (908) 252-0700, or visit www.somersetpatriots.com.
