Mohegan Wolves News Release

NEW LONDON, C.T. (June 6th, 2002)- The Mohegan Wolves welcome the only Northeast Divisional team that they have yet to play this season to the Mohegan Sun Arena this weekend when they entertain the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers (2-7). It will be the first of three meetings with the Pioneers this season, and the only meeting at the den. These two teams will meet again next weekend in Wilkes-Barre. The game will again feature an opportunity for Wolves fans to enter and win an 883 Harley Davidson Sportster motorcycle from New London County Motorcycles as well as a deluxe hot tub courtesy of Treats Spa of Uncasville. Dairy Queen of Norwich is giving away 50 free ice cream cones and an ice cream cake at this week's game also. Applebee's of Groton will be giving away 100 free kid's sundaes with the purchase of an entrée at the game as well. Joshua's Limousine of Gales' Ferry is giving away a free one-hour limo ride, while C.C. O'Brien's of Pawcatuck is giving away a free pizza. Margaritas of Mystic is giving away two free dinners and replica Mohegan Wolves jersey's will be given away courtesy of Byrnes Insurance.

THE SERIES

This is the first game of the three game series between these two expansion franchises. Both the Wolves and the Pioneers have struggled in the first half of the season, but look to turn things around in the second half. These two teams will meet again next weekend at the First Union Arena at Casey Plaza in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. The final meeting of the season comes July 13th in Wilkes-Barre. The Pioneers have two players whom the Wolves are very familiar with. FB/LB Kevin Nagle was recruited by the Wolves this past off-season. Nagle however, chose to play closer to home for the Pioneers. WR/DB Greg Hill attended a Mohegan Wolves tryout, but was not offered a contract. He was recently assigned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and will see time Friday night. Pioneers QB Bryan Snyder played one game last season in Peoria, where current Wolves Head Coach Gary Porter was his Head Coach. In one game of action last season with the Pirates, Snyder was 14 of 31 for 137 yards and a TD. He threw 2 interceptions on the night.

INJURY REPORT

The Wolves are again licking their wounds as they were decimated by injuries in the last two games with New Haven. Offensive Specialist Brandon Burnside missed the entire second half of last week's game with an injured knee. He is currently questionable for this weekend's game with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

INJURY REPORT

It seems that when one twin gets hurt, the other feels his pain. This is true for the Wolves as well. Brandon's twin brother Brent broke his hand in last week's game, and will be out at least two weeks. He has been placed on short-term injured reserve. Lineman Dan Porter made his first appearance in three weeks, but his time was cut short due to an aggravation of his previous ankle injury. He is also questionable for this week's game. Lineman Pete Govens sprained his ankle in practice last week and missed last week's game. He is currently questionable as well. Lineman Paul Ficaro left last week's game with cramps. He has a variety of injuries but is probable for this weekend's game. WR/DB David Bradford has been activated from the short-term injured reserve and will see significant time this weekend. ROSTER REPORT

The Wolves played last week's game with only 20 players on their active roster and will do the same again this week. WR/DB David Bradford was activated from short-term injured reserve, while WR/DB Brent Burnside will go on. QB Keith Toolan also was activated from short-term injured reserve, but he was designated for re-assignment due to roster limitations.

NEXT WEEK'S OPPONENT: Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers (2-7)

Next week's game will be the second of two consecutive games with the Pioneers. W/B-Scranton is currently 2-7 and in last place in the Northeast Division. The Pioneers have only played 5 divisional games, with losses at Albany, twice, and Rochester, while defeating New Haven and then Rochester last weekend. The Wolves will travel to Pennsylvania on June 7th and again on July 13th for the final game of the season series. Game time is set for 7:30 next weekend at Wilkes-Barre.
