
Furman Star Wade Joins af2's Carolina Rhinos

GREENVILLE, SC â The League office of arenafootball2 and the Carolina Rhinos have announced the assignment of wide receiver / defensive back Jody Wade to the team. Wade, who played football and baseball at Furman University from 1994 through 1999, is slated to make his Rhinos debut tomorrow when the team returns from two straight road games to host the Roanoke Steam at 7:30 p.m.
Wade caught 68 passes for 1,124 yards and 13 touchdowns for the Paladins between 1994 and 1997. He also posted impressive numbers on the diamond between 1996 and 1999 finishing as the school's all-time leader in at bats, 770; runs scored, 159; and stolen bases, 96. Wade batted .305 with 20 home runs and 112 runs batted in.
The Rhinos are tied with the Columbus Wardogs for third place and are four and a half games behind the second-place Macon Knights in the Eastern Division with a 2-6 record. They have lost three straight games including two in a row on the road and one at home. Friday's game will be the first of two straight at home for the Rhinos who will also host the first-year Cape Fear Wildcats Saturday June 15th before heading on the road for two games Saturday June 22nd at Roanoke and Saturday June 29th at Columbus. Rhinos road games are broadcast live on 1070 "The Sportszone" WCSZ-AM and at rhinosfootball.com. "Rhino Talk", featuring head coach Rod Miller, is also broadcast on 1070 "The Sportszone" every Monday at 6 p.m. live from Wild Wing Café in downtown Greenville.
Roanoke has a 4-5 record and is in third place in the Atlantic Division two and a half games behind second-place Cape Fear and a half game ahead of the fourth-place Norfolk Nighthawks. The Steam have lost to Cape Fear in each of their last two games and had won four games in a row before their current skid started.
A replica of the Civil War era submarine H.L. Hunley, the first vessel to sink an enemy ship in combat, will be on display free of charge outside the BI-LO before Friday's game. Friday will also be "Scout Night" with specially-priced ticket packages available to groups of scouts and commemorative patches for the first one-thousand scouts who purchase tickets. There will also be a postgame concert Friday featuring Avalon.
The Rhinos are also running their second-annual "Rhino For A Day" contest in honor of Father's Day. Fans are asked to submit an essay of 50 words or less explaining why their father deserves to be a Rhino for the June 15th game. Essays can be submitted at the Fan Accommodations Table during Friday's game, at the BI-LO Center box office, by mail or online via the Newsletter link at rhinosfootball.com.
