Rochester Brigade News Release
(Rochester, NY)-Rochester Brigade Head Coach and General Manager Mark Saunders announced that he has been assigned two players from the arenafootball2 league office. The Players assigned to the team are WR/LB Matt Andreas (Baldwin-Wallace) and FB/LB LaMonte Coleman (Slippery Rock).
Andreas, 6-3, 210, played his collegiate football at Baldwin Wallace College in Berea, Ohio, from 1997 to 1999. While playing for the Yellow Jackets, he was named second-team All-Ohio Athletic Conference and second-team GTE Academic All-District IV player in 1998 and 1999. In three seasons he compiled 87 receptions for 1,527 yards and 14 touchdowns and in 1999, earning him the team's most outstanding receiver. Andreas signed as a free agent and attended training camp with the CFL's Calgary Stampeders in 2000 and was a member of the Buffalo Destroyers' practice squad in 2001.
" Because of the injury situation, Andreas is able to step right in and take advantage of this opportunity...he knows the system and he's been around the arena game," explained Saunders.
Coleman, 5-10, 235, played his collegiate football at Slippery Rock, where he was an All-American in 1993 and 1994. He played six games with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers earlier this season, rushing the ball 36 times for 125 yards and two touchdowns, and registering 10.5 tackles (eight solo). Prior to the af2, Coleman was the 2001 NIFL Offensive Player of the Year for the Johnstown J-Dogs, where he registered 227 carries for 1,008 yards and 34 touchdowns. He also caught 27 passes for 184 yards and three touchdowns. Coleman was also affiliated with the NFL's Pittsburgh Steelers in 1995 and the AFL's Milwaukee Mustangs in 1997.
"I'm very excited to have a player with Coleman's experience...he'll definitely make a difference in running the football," stated Saunders.
