Rochester Brigade News Release

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Brigade (0-2) will host the Norfolk Nighthawks (1-0), at the Blue Cross Arena in Rochester's home opener tomorrow, Friday, April 18 at 7:30 p.m. The Brigade will look to notch their first win of the 2003 af2 season.

"Last week we led the game in almost every offensive category," noted Brigade Head Coach Mark Saunders. "Derek Baker had a tremendous offensive game with two touchdowns and nine catches for 139 yards, and Jason Visconti threw for four touchdowns. We're very close to where we need to be for a victory and hope to get one for our fans at the home opener."

In an effort to get that first victory of the season, Coach Saunders shook-up the roster this week by trading QB Mike Cawley and OL/DL Antonio Dingle. "Mike (Cawley) is a veteran who deserves the chance to start right away and we had already made a commitment to start Jason Visconti," said Saunders. In return for Cawley, the Brigade received Kevin Carty, who played his college ball at William and Mary. "Carty can step in and not miss a beat," said Saunders. "I think we got the better end of the deal."

In addition, the Brigade received three linemen from the Greensboro Prowlers in a trade for Antonio Dingle. "We got three lineman who can make an impact on offense and defense and I couldn't be happier," noted Saunders. The newest members of the Brigade OL/DL are Marco McGhee, Lavelle Morrow and Derrick Reynolds.

The Nighthawks won their season and home opener on April 5 in a tight match against the Charleston Swamp Foxes, 32-21, while the Brigade dropped a tough decision last weekend to the Columbus Wardogs, in Columbus, GA, 47-32.

The Brigade home opener is Friday, April 18 vs. the Norfolk Nighthawks at 7:30 p.m. It's also the first Brigade Family 4-Pack game, presented by Krispy Kreme, Zweigle's, and Heluva Good. Brigade Family 4-Packs start at just $29.
