Last Minute Condors Heroics Fall Short in 3-2 Shootout Loss

February 3, 2013 - ECHL (ECHL)
Bakersfield Condors News Release

CONDORSTOWN, Calif. - F Nicholas Tremblay scored twice, including the equalizer in the final minute of regulation, but the Bakersfield Condors (13-31-2-3, 31pts) fell 3-2 in a shootout to the Colorado Eagles (22-20-1-2, 47pts) Saturday night in front of 5,489 fans at Rabobank Arena.

Bakersfield and Colorado exchanged early scoring chances in the game, but the Eagles put home the only goal in the first period. Midway through the frame, F Joey Sides netted his 16th of the season, beating G Brian Stewart on the man advantage, to make it 1-0.

The Eagles extended the lead in the middle frame, with F Ray Kaunisto rapping in fifth of the campaign on a rebound opportunity. Shots were 9-8 Colorado in the period, and 26-17 through 40 minutes.

The Condors capitalized on a fluky rebound chance eight minutes into the third, when a shot from F Jacob Lagace bounced straight up into the air, behind G Adam Brown and was banged in by F Nicholas Tremblay. With the goaltender pulled in the final minutes of the game, Tremblay added his second of the night to tie it up and force overtime.

After a scoreless overtime session, Colorado took it in the shootout, beating Stewart only twice, but Brown was strong, surrendering just one shootout goal, and the Eagles earned the extra point.
