Eagles Sweep Set in Bakersfield with Shootout Win

Colorado Eagles News Release

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Colorado Eagles earned a weekend sweep in Bakersfield with a 3-2 shootout win against the Condors. For the second night in a row, Colorado held a 2-1 lead late in the third period, but Bakersfield was able to score with an extra attacker in the final minute to force overtime, temporarily delaying the Eagles' win.

Colorado out-shot the Condors 16-9 in the first frame, and tallied the period's only goal via their league-leading power play. Just under 11 minutes in, Joey Sides put home a loose puck from the slot to get the visitors on the scoreboard first.

The Eagles doubled that lead at 7:41 of the second period following a faceoff in the left circle of their offensive zone. Trent Daavettila won the draw, then sent the puck toward the net from between the circles where Ray Kaunisto was able to swat the rebound past Brian Stewart.

Seven minutes into the third period, Nicholas Tremblay -- the only Condor to score the night before -- batted a puck out of the air behind Adam Brown to cut Colorado's lead to 2-1. And with Stewart pulled for an extra attacker in the final minute, Tremblay would net his third goal in two games following a faceoff win in the right circle of the Condors' offensive zone.

Neither team generated much pressure in the abbreviated overtime period, forcing the game to a shootout. Each team scored once through its first four chances in the best-of-five format before Steve Haddon scored and Tyler Maxwell was stopped as the respective 5th shooters, giving the Eagles the game's second point.

Colorado will play next in Las Vegas on Monday night (10 p.m. MST) before returning to the Budweiser Events Center for a three game set next week (Wednesday, Friday & Saturday) against the Fort Wayne Komets.
