Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release

The rocky start for the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (0-3) continued into game two of their four-game series with the Las Vegas 51s as the Sox lost 10-2 on Tuesday evening at Security Service Field in front of 1,873 fans. Eric Stults (1-0) picked up the win for the 51s and Brian Lawrence (0-1) took the loss in his second rehab start. On the night, Lawrence tossed seven innings and gave up ten runs on 12 hits.

In the first inning, Lawrence surrendered a leadoff single to Tony Abreu and had to stop the game for several minutes to have a deep divot on the front of the mound worked on by the grounds crew. When play resumed, Lawrence gave up a single to Larry Bigbie and a run scoring double to James Loney before walking Andy LaRoche to load the bases. Delwyn Young then hit into a double play that put another run across the plate and brought Mitch Jones to the plate. Jones then deposited a Lawrence pitch deep over the left field wall, his second first inning home run in as many games, to round out the scoring at 4-0.

Las Vegas extended the lead to 6-0 in the fifth as Abreu led off the inning with a solo homer to center. The next batter, Bigbie, tripled and then scored on a groundout by James Loney. The 51s made it 10-0 in the seventh with four more runs on a run-coring throwing error and a three-run homer by Delwyn Young.

The top two hitters for Las Vegas, Abreu & Bigbie, combined to collect nine of the teams' 13 hits (Abreu 5-for-5, 4-1B, HR; Bigbie 4-for-5, 2-1B, 2B, 3B).
