Corpus Christi Hooks News Release

CORPUS CHRISTI - Colin Barber's three-run blast to right field highlighted a seven-run first inning Tuesday night as the Hooks knocked off Amarillo, 12-6, before 3,351 fans in the series opener at Whataburger Field.

Corpus Christi is 8-5 vs. the Sod Poodles in 2023.

After Amarillo plated two in the top of the first, the Hooks answered by sending 11 men to bat in their half. Singles by Drew Gilbert, Zach Daniels and Joey Loperfido started the innings, leading the way to a two-run double of the bat of Zach Dezenzo. Two pitches later, Barber clubbed his fourth home run over a five-game span with a drive down the right-field line that cut into a stiff wind while clearing the Amarillo bullpen.

Over the course of a seven-game hit streak, Barber is batting .407 with two doubles, four home runs and seven RBIs.

Chad Stevens and Gilbert capped the seven-run outburst with an RBI triple and sac fly respectively.

Stevens delivered again as part of a three-run second by doubling into the gap in right to plate Luis Aviles, Jr and Scott Schreiber. Schreiber, activated Tuesday from a three-week stint on the Injured List, had driven in Barber by beating out an infield single.

Cesar Gomez, Jacob DeLabio and Ray Gaither each worked a scoreless frame for CC. Tyler Brown, who rejoined the Hooks Tuesday from Triple-A Sugar Land, was awarded the win as he recorded his seven outs in order.

Daniels helped with insurance as he opened the sixth with a 440-foot poke to left. All four of his Double-A home runs have come within the past 10 assignments.
