Corpus Christi Hooks News Release
CORPUS CHRISTI - Defending Whataburger Field as the Honey Butter Chicken Biscuits, Corpus Christi picked up a 5-4 victory over Amarillo before 3,587 fans Wednesday night.
Dating back to the beginning of May, the Hooks have won six of their last eight vs. the Sod Poodles.
Zach Dezenzo started the scoring in the first with a two-out single into left field, plating Drew Gilbert who cracked a base hit to begin the inning.
CC then struck for four in the second on home runs by Jordan Brewer and Kenedy Corona. Brewer's first long ball in 10 games this season started the frame. Corona capitalized on a hit batsman and a J.C. Correa single with this fourth home run in nine contests.
The five early runs held thanks to sturdy pitching by Julio Robaina. Robaina, who permitted two base runners over the first three innings, was charged with three runs in five innings for his sixth win.
Aaron Brown blanked Amarillo from the sixth through the eighth before issuing a lead-off walk in the ninth. Enter Cole McDonald who earned his fourth save by retiring three of the four men he faced. McDonald struck out two, including a game-ending K, which stranded the tying run at second base.
