Gwinnett Stripers News Release

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA - Gwinnett right-hander Julio Teheran and Syracuse left-hander John Lannan combined for 17.0 innings of one-run baseball on Saturday night at Coolray Field, with Lannan going the distance in a 1-0 Chiefs' victory. Teheran allowed just a run over 8.0 innings, but he'd take the tough-luck loss as Lannan threw a complete-game three hitter. A total of 9,096 fans witnessed the pitcher's duel.

The lone run of the night came in the third as Teheran loaded the bases on a walk to Zach Walters, a hit-by-pitch of Jarrett Hoffpauir and catcher J.C. Boscan's fielding error on Lannan's sacrifice bunt. Teheran was able to maneuver out of the jam as he induced Eury Perez into a 6-4-3 double play, but the grounder scored Walters from third for a 1-0 Chiefs' lead.

Teheran (L, 7-8) struck out Jim Negrych to end the third inning and was just about unhittable the rest of the way. He allowed two hits all night, singles to Perez and Jesus Valdez, walked two while fanning nine in a 103-pitch, 69-strike outing. Cory Gearrin yielded a hit and struck out one in a scoreless ninth inning.

Unfortunately, the bats couldn't back Teheran on his masterful night. Jack Wilson singled with one out in the first inning against Lannan, yet was caught stealing. Boscan doubled with one out in the sixth, but Lannan retired Teheran and Luis Durango to end the threat.

Boscan capped a 2-for-2 game with an infield single to start the ninth, but Lannan again worked out of the jam. A sacrifice bunt by Jose Constanza put pinch runner Felix Pie at second, but Durango grounded out and Josh Wilson flied out to center, ending the game.

Lannan (W, 8-11) was brilliant, throwing 9.0 innings of scoreless baseball en route to the complete game win. The left-hander allowed just three hits all night, alongside two strikeouts and one walk. The complete game was his second of the season, as he also threw 9.0 innings with a run allowed in a win over Louisville on June 5.

The Gwinnett Braves (61-74) take on the Syracuse Chiefs (64-71) in the series finale on Sunday night at Coolray Field, first pitch scheduled for 5:05 PM. The G-Braves will start left-hander Yohan Flande (6-9, 4.15) against Syracuse right-hander Jeff Mandel (4-5, 3.06). Listen to the broadcast on WDUN 550 AM / 102.9 FM in Gainesville, Georgia with Tony Schiavone calling the play-by-play.

Sunday night is another Family Sunday at Coolray Field with a 20-minute pre-game catch in the outfield and a post-game base run for kids 12 and under. Fans are invited to bring their dogs to the ballpark for Bark in the Park (lawn seating only). Sunday is also Gildan Night, as Gildan will be giving out 5,000 Instant Win Scratch-Off Tickets with prizes that include a $100 shopping spree at Gildan.com.

Sunday is Red, White and Blue night as the G-Braves recognize organizations that support the military or military families. Finally, it's also the fourth night of "Drive Me Crazy" as the G-Braves gather donations of canned foods, clothes, sports equipment, toys and more to restock local shelters and storage centers.
