Mississippi Braves News Release
PEARL, MS - Shea Langeliers hit two home runs on Saturday night to help the Mississippi Braves pick up their first win of the season, a 5-2 victory over the Pensacola Blue Wahoos at Trustmark Park.
The Atlanta Braves #3 overall prospect and #64 on the MLB Top 100 list broke out in a big way with a solo home run to put Mississippi (1-4) up 2-0 in the sixth inning and the game-winning three-run shot in the bottom of the eighth inning. Saturday marked the first multi-homer game for the former ninth overall pick in the 2019 draft out of Baylor.
Trey Harris led the M-Braves with three hits, finishing 3-for-4 with a run scored. The #26 prospect in the organization lead the club through five games with a .294 batting average.ÃÂ
Victor Vodnik started the game for the M-Braves and was impressive through 4.0 innings and 75 pitches. The 21-year-old right-hander from Rialto, CA, struck out five and walked three before reaching his pitch limit.
The Braves got on the board first against Blue Wahoos (4-1) starter Jason Alexander in the fourth inning when an attempted double play went array. Braden Shewmake sprinted home to score the first run. Langeliers hit his first home run with two outs in the sixth inning and extended the advantage to 2-0.
Pensacola tied the game, taking advantage of a pair of walks from Braves reliever Sean McLaughlin, and then a two-out, two-run double by Lazaro Alonso tied the game at 2-2 in the seventh inning.
The Braves rallied to start the eighth inning against Wahoos reliever Jeff Lindgren (L, 0-1), as Shewmake and Harris smashed back-to-back singles. Langeliers followed with the three-run home run that just cleared the wall in left-center, giving the M-Braves a 5-2 lead.
Troy Bacon (W, 1-0), who committed to Mississippi State before signing with the Braves in 2018, tossed 2.0 scoreless innings to finish off the game and secure the win.
Shewmake joined Langeliers and Harris in the multi-hit game column, finishing the night 2-for-4 with two runs.
The M-Braves and Blue Wahoos wrap up the six-game opening homestand tomorrow afternoon for Mother's Day at Trustmark Park. The first pitch is at 2:05 pm CT with RHP Matt Withrow (0-0, 0.00) starting the Braves against LHP Will Stewart (0-0, --) for Pensacola.
