Omaha Lancers News Release
BENSENVILLE, IL - One night removed from their first loss of the season, the Omaha Lancers rallied back from a two-goal third period deficit with four final-frame goals, including a game-winning deflection from Luca Frigo in the final minute of regulation, to defeat the Chicago Steel 5-3 on Friday at the Edge Ice Arena. With the win, the Lancers kept pace with the Sioux Falls Stampede and Waterloo Black Hawks at 6-1-0 overall and with 12 standings points, remain tied atop the USHL's Western Conference standings.
After a quick-strike goal from Biagio Lerario less than three minutes into the game gave the Steel a 1-0 lead, Tyler Hynes leveled the score for Omaha at 4:51 of the second on a goal-mouth scramble, assisted by Austin Pooley. Later in the period, Chicago strung together a pair of goals, from John Ernsting at 6:50 and Mason Bergh at 10:01 respectively, to push the Steel advantage to 3-1 through 40 minutes.
In the third, Omaha waged a war of attrition, chipping away with an Anthony Angello goal at 3:40, the Manlius, New York native's first-career USHL marker, then a Gage Hough game-tying tally five minutes later, the Omaha's native's USHL-second best fourth power-play goal. Then, in the final minute of the game, a sizzling Jimmy Schuldt drive from the left point was tipped by Luca Frigo and found a hole in Chicago netminder Cale Morris to deliver the Lancers their first lead of the hockey game. A Hough empty-netter some 31 seconds later sealed the deal and the Lancers skated away with a character-building, 5-3, come-from-behind road victory.
Next up for Omaha, it's the final tilt of a three-game road trip as the Lancers travel to Indianapolis for a Saturday night clash with the Indiana Ice at 7:05 pm at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. Full coverage of Saturday's game begins with the "Valpak Pregame Show" at 6:50 pm on the Lancers' flagship station, "The Mighty" 1290 KOIL with Lancers broadcaster Tony Brown providing the play-by-play.
