October 18, 2013 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Indiana Ice News Release
The Indiana Ice went into the Covelli Centre looking for a revenge win against the Youngstown Phantoms...and they got it!
Six days after falling to the Phantoms 4-3 in the third longest shootout in Ice history, Indy was able to pull off their second win of the season with a 3-1 decision over Youngstown on Friday.
A solid bit of goaltending earned Jason Pawloski his first win of the season with 20 saves on 21 shots. Jason Salvaggio, Jacob Pritchard and Josh Jacobs added a scoring touch with one goal each.
Despite a low shot count in the opening stages of the game, Indy used solid puck control and penalty killing to keep Youngstown off the score sheet.
Little offense on either side in the first thri of the tilt, but a crucial snipe by Salvaggio in the closing seconds allowed the Ice to walk into the locker room nursing a 1-0 lead.
The tally came after the University of New Hampshire commit stripped Yougnstown's Alfred Larsson at the bluel ine before firing the puck over the shoulder of Sean Romeo for his first goal of the season.
The Phantoms also provided multiple opportunities for scoring with four power plays in the second period, but the game-winner came when Pritchard fired the puck through the five-hole of Romeo for the 2-0 score. The feed came off a rebound for Jake Cass's shot near the faceoff dot.
Youngstown gained some energy when Luke Stork's goal on a 2-on-1 drew the Phantoms back within a goal, 2-1, but Indy responded immediately when the man advantage paid off in the form of a Jacobs slapshot from the point.
Indy looks for win number three of the season on Saturday as the Omaha Lancers visit Bankers Life Fieldhouse at 7:05 pm on "Kaplan University Night" sponsored by Kaplan University.
Tickets for the game start as low as $11. Call the Ice office at (317) 925-4423 or visit www.indianaice.com for more information.
