Omaha Lancers News Release
DES MOINES, IA - In the final game of the two teams' six-game regular season series, the Omaha Lancers defeated the Des Moines Buccaneers by a final score of 5-1 on Saturday at Buccaneer Arena in Des Moines, Iowa. With the win, the Lancers improved to 36-12-5 overall this season and with 77 points, remain alone in second place in the Western Conference and overall USHL standings, four points behind the first place Waterloo Black Hawks.
After a scoreless first period, Jakob Forsbacka-Karlsson sparked the Lancers' offense immediately in the second, as the Stockholm, Sweden native's tenth goal of the year gave Omaha a 1-0 lead just 47 seconds into the middle frame with Jake Randolph and Luca Frigo collecting assists on the play. Another Swede extended the Lancer lead at 3:34, as Niklas Folin wired home a Forsbacka-Karlsson feed from Matt Nelson to make it 2-0 Omaha. The Buccaneers fought back late in the frame, however, as Danny Elser buried on the power-play at 16:50 to draw Des Moines within a goal at the end of the second period.
Needing a beefy third period push, the Lancers got just that, as Randolph potted back-to-back goals, at 6:22 from Steven Johnson and Tucker Poolman at even strength, and on the power-play at 15:37 from Forsbacka-Karlsson and Poolman, to make it 4-1 Omaha. A late Anthony Angello goal, set up by a persistent push from Jake Henderson, capped the scoring for the Lancers in a 5-1 victory. With Saturday's win, the Lancers finished their six-game regular season series vs. Des Moines with a record of 4-1-1 overall and 3-0-0 at Buccaneer Arena.
Next up for the Lancers, it's the final regular season home game of the year, a 5:05 pm tilt on Sunday at Ralston Arena vs. Team USA's U-17 squad on a "TeamMates Sunday", presented by the Harold K.
