FARGO, ND - Nick Rivera scored his fourth goal in two games but it wasn't enough on Saturday night as the Omaha Lancers gained a point in the standings with a 5-4 shootout loss to the Fargo Force in front of 4,237 fans inside Scheels Arena.

Omaha started the scoring less than five minutes into the game. Anthony Angello intercepted the puck inside his defensive zone as Nick Rivera was trying to back-check through the neutral zone. As Angello took the puck, Rivera went across the blueline and took a long pass from Angello. Rivera quickly moved into the right wing circle and beat Robbie Beydoun for his fourth goal in two games to give the Lancers a 1-0 lead 4:33 into the game.

Fargo responded a couple minutes later while on the power-play. Sean Mostrom worked the puck at the top of the offensive zone circles for the Force with teammate Colton Poolman. Poolman sent the puck down the right side to Zach Yon who skated in and fired the puck by Lancers netminder Kris Oldham to tie the game up 1-1 at the 7:10 mark of the opening period.

Just 57 seconds into the second period Fargo took their first lead of the weekend. Will Borgen was skating back to defend when he lost an edge after stepping on a loose stick in the defensive zone hash marks. Denis Smirnov took the puck and stuffed it in to the right of Kris Oldham to give the Force a 2-1 lead early on the in the middle frame. The lone assist was credited to Jake McLaughlin.

After falling behind, the Lancers scored three straight goals in the second period to take a 4-2 lead. The scoring started on the power-play on a scramble in front of Fargo's net. Both sides came to the front of the net but Steven Spinner found the loose puck and jammed it by Robbie Beydoun to even the score up 2-2 at 6:16 of the second period. Assists on the Spinner goal were credited to Ryan Donato and Niklas Folin.

Louie Rowe created a turnover below the goal line. Fargo goaltender Robbie Beydoun came out of the crease to play the puck. Rowe met him against the wall and took the puck, sending it to an awaiting Brian Williams who gave Omaha a 3-2 lead at 11:11 into the second frame.

A great passing play by the Lancers put them ahead by a pair of goals just 31 seconds after Williams gave Omaha the lead. Matt Joyaux sent the puck to the neutral zone where Josh French moved into the offensive zone. French dropped the puck to Hank Crone who immediately returned it back to French. In the right wing circle French sent the puck to the front of the net, off a skate, and by Robbie Beydoun to give the Lancers a 4-2 lead 11:42 into the second period. After the goal, Mathias Israelsson came in and replaced Robbie Beydoun in net.

In the third period Fargo scored two quick goals to tie the game at four. Denis Smirnov pulled Fargo within a goal just 3:30 into the final period and Dixon Bowen tied the game at the 4:27 mark. Bowen moved into the offensive zone for Fargo and fired a shot that was denied by Kris Oldham. However, Bowen picked up his own rebound and lifted it over Oldham to tie the game up 4-4.

After nothing was decided in the rest of the third period or overtime, the two sides went to a shootout. In the shootout Kyle Sylvester and Denis Smirnov each scored in the first two rounds to give Fargo the 5-4 win and the extra point.
