Omaha Lancers News Release

DES MOINES, IA. - The Omaha Lancers traveled to Des Moines tonight (12/17) to take on the struggling Buccaneers as they currently sit at the bottom of the western conference standings after starting the season undefeated through five games. Including a 4-3 overtime win over the Lancers back on October 1st.

Both teams came out hard offensively in the first 20 minutes as the Lancers led in the shot count 12 to 9. However, great play by Lancers' goaltender, Mason Kucenski and Buccaneers' goalie Lucas Szyszka kept the scoreboard blank.

Both offenses managed to click in the second period, by both teams picking up 10+ shots, and three goals in total.

Late in the period, Davis Burnside got a pass from John Driscoll and rifled a shot from the left side faceoff dot that beat Kucenski over the blocker. Making it a 1-0 game with 5:28 to play in the second.

Four minutes later, Cade Ahrenholz found himself all alone in the slot area off a pass from Owen Fowler to tie the game up with 1:45 left today in the second.

That was then followed up by a penalty to Luke Strickland, which allowed the Buccaneers' solid power-play to get to work.

Scout Truman picked up a pass from Paul Davey behind Kucenski's net and carried it into the crease and beat Kucenski far-side to take the 2-1 lead heading into the second intermission.

The third period is where the Buccaneers really took off.

A quick power-play goal scored my Joshua Barnes made the score 3-1 just 19 seconds into the period.

That was followed up by a short-handed breakaway goal, scored by Truman for his second of the night, which then lead to another goal just five minutes later by Ethan Fredricks to cap off a 5-1 victory for Des Moines.

The Lancers were out-shot 16-5 in the third period, and 39-24 on the night.

The Lancers will be hosting the Buccaneers tomorrow night (12/18) back at Ralston Arena for Ugly Sweater Night. That game can be caught on HockeyTV and Mixlr.
