Long Island Ducks News Release

(Central Islip, N.Y., June 13, 2006) - The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Lancaster Barnstormers 6-5 in 12 innings on Tuesday night at Citibank Park.

With the game knotted at five in the 12th inning, Lancaster's Travis Hake singled to right to plate Kevin Wilson to give the Barnstormers a one-run lead. The Ducks comeback hopes fell short as reliever Charlie Weatherby retired the side in order to give Lancaster the win.

Trailing 5-0 and being out-hit 16-to-1 entering the home half of the eighth, Long Island's bats exploded for five runs on five hits, two of which were back-to-back home runs by Dominick Ambrosini and Tony Schrager to set the stage for the dramatic finish.

Lancaster reliever Scott Patterson (2-0) picked up the win after tossing two scoreless frames. Todd Erdos (3-3) absorbed the loss after allowing one run on two hits in the 12th. Ducks relievers Pete Hartmann and Kevin Mannix kept the Barnstormers off the board over 5.1 frames. Hartmann fanned three in 2.1 innings and Mannix struck out four in three no-hit frames.

With his double in the eighth inning, Mel Stocker extended his Atlantic League-leading hitting streak to 19 games. The streak is one game shy of tying the franchise's all-time longest hit streak of 20 set by Derrick Gibson in 2003 (June 5-June 24).

The Ducks and Barnstormers will play game two of their three-game set on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. Pat Mahomes (4-3) will take the hill against fellow righty Brian Whitaker (3-1).
