Lancaster Storms Past Patriots, 13-1

Bridgewater, NJ - The Lancaster Barnstormers defeated the Somerset Patriots 13-1 at TD Bank Ballpark on Thursday night.

Somerset scored their only run in the bottom of the third inning after catcher J.R. Hopf reached on an error and came around to score on a single by left fielder Tim Raines to make the score 1-0.

Lancaster took the lead 2-1 in the top of the fifth inning on a solo homerun by catcher Jed Morris (3), a single by left fielder Michael Woods, and an RBI double by right fielder Jason Perry.

The Barnstormers added to their lead in the top of the sixth inning after designated hitter Reggie Taylor doubled and scored on an RBI double by Morris for the 3-1 advantage.

Lancaster added two runs in the top of the seventh inning. Shortstop Bryant Nelson walked, Woods reached on a fielder's choice, and Perry singled to bring home Nelson. Woods eventually scored on a double play ball by third baseman Aaron Herr for the 5-1 lead.

The Barnstormers added three more runs in the top of the eighth inning on homeruns by second baseman Lloyd Turner (5) and Morris (4) and five more runs in the ninth inning for the 13-1 final highlighted by a three run homerun by center fielder Joe Gaetti (8).

Josh Hall (8-2) got the win for Lancaster, allowing an unearned run on four hits with five strikeouts in 6.2 innings pitched. Somerset starter Jesse Darcy (1-7) suffered the loss, allowing two runs on seven hits in five innings pitched.

The Somerset Patriots 2010 Season presented by Ford will continue at home on Friday night when the Patriots take on the Lancaster Barnstormers at 7:05 pm. The game includes a Fourth Of July Weekend Fireworks Celebration presented by John Maltese Iron Works.
