Southern Maryland Blue Crabs News Release
First baseman Eric Crozier hit the first ever inside the park home run at Regency Furniture Stadium as the Blue Crabs knocked three homers in all to defeat the Camden Riversharks 3-1 Thursday night. The Crabs' league best 40th win drops their magic number to clinch a playoff spot in the Liberty Division down to one with three games to play.
LHP Craig Anderson tossed six scoreless innings and allowed just two hits as he improved to 4-0 on the year. Meanwhile, Camden RHP Ben Davis (2-4) struck out seven but suffered the loss, yielding three runs in 6.1 innings of work.
Leftfielder Jason Lane put the Blue Crabs on the board in the second with a towering one out solo shot down the leftfield line, his first of the season. Davis shut the Crabs out through the next three innings, but Anderson was equally as impressive. At one point, Anderson retired nine consecutive Riversharks from the second through the fourth.
In the sixth, Crozier came to bat with two outs lined what should have been a single into center. Instead, Camden centerfielder Chris Walker tried to make a sliding catch and the ball went all the way back to the wall. By the time the Riversharks got ball back into the infield, Crozier had an inside the park solo homer, his 10th of the year.
Camden cut the Blue Crab lead in half in the seventh when third baseman Brian Burgamy led off with a homer, his 10th of the season. The Blue Crabs got the run right back though, as second baseman Kody Kirkland drove a solo shot into left, his fifth this season.
RHP Jim Ed Warden shut the door in the ninth and earned his 11th save of the year.
The Blue Crabs are now three games ahead of the Camden Riversharks for first place in the Atlantic League Liberty Division with three games remaining in the first half of the season.
The Blue Crabs return to action Friday evening at 7:05 p.m. for game two of this four game series against the Camden Riversharks. RHP Connor Robertson (3-2, 3.58) will start for Southern Maryland opposite fellow righty Travis Chick (4-2, 5.01) for Camden.
