Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release

Bowling Green, Ky. - Fort Wayne starter Dinelson Lamet was too much for the Hot Rods offense, tossing 6.0 shutout innings on just three hits, while early offense propelled the TinCaps to a franchise record-tying 10th straight victory, 4-0, in front of 2,005 fans at Bowling Green Ballpark on Wednesday evening.

Bowling Green (25-26, 62-58) drops to 5-9 on the season against the TinCaps, while Fort Wayne (34-17, 66-53) tied the franchise record for consecutive wins, originally set twice in 2009, and has won 18 of its last 20 overall.

First pitch was delayed for 39 minutes due to impending rain in the area, but when the game began, Fort Wayne struck first with two runs in the top of the second inning against Hot Rods' starter Brad Wallace. The TinCaps strung together three straight singles to load the bases before an out was recorded, then Jose Ruiz grounded into a double play for the first two outs of the stanza, but on the play, Trae Santos scored from third to give the TinCaps a 1-0 lead. In the next at-bat, Edwin Moreno doubled off the centerfield wall to score Luis Tejada to give Fort Wayne a 2-0 advantage.

Wallace pitched around a leadoff infield single in the top of the third inning but could not work around a two-out error in the top of the fourth, putting Ruiz at first for Moreno, who clocked a 3-2 pitch from Wallace over the right-centerfield fence for his fourth home run of the year, extending Fort Wayne's lead to 4-0.

Wallace's (2-4) night came to an end after 5.0 innings on six hits and four runs (two earned), while walking none and striking out three. Edwin Fierro and Brian Miller combined for 4.0 scoreless innings of relief.

Lamet (5-6) allowed five total base runners over his 6.0 shutout innings, walking none and striking out five, including fanning the side on 11 pitches in the fifth inning.

Bowling Green notched its only run of the game in the bottom of the seventh inning against TinCaps' reliever Taylor Cox. Coty Blanchard led off the frame with a single into right field and moved to third on Cade Gotta's double into left-centerfield. Grant Kay then hit a sacrifice fly to deep centerfield to score Blanchard and bring Bowling Green within 4-1.

In the bottom of the eighth inning against Fort Wayne reliever Colby Blueberg, the Hot Rods loaded the bases with two outs - Riley Unroe walked, Bralin Jackson singled him to third and Blanchard walked - but Blueberg struck out Gotta swinging on three straight sliders to end the inning.

Blueberg surrendered a two-out single to Mac James in the ninth - which increased James' Bowling Green record home on-base streak to 25 games - but got Cristian Toribio to ground into a force out to end the game. Blueberg collected his 17th save in the process and increased his scoreless streak to 27.0 innings.

Seven different Hot Rods collected a hit, while Thomas Milone and Gotta both knocked doubles, but Bowling Green stranded eight men on the bases while going 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position. Fort Wayne's Edwin Moreno finished a triple shy of the cycle, going 3-for-4 with three RBI on the night.

Bowling Green looks to avoid the sweep in the finale of the nine-game homestand on Thursday at 7:05 p.m. CDT, when Henry Centeno (7-7, 3.47) takes on Ernesto Montas (10-6, 3.53).
