Lakewood takes the first of four games in Lexington

APPLEBEE'S PARK (Lexington, KY) -- Michael Durant went two for four and belted a solo home run as the Lakewood BlueClaws defeated the Lexington Legends 6-2. The Legends lost their ninth straight game at home and fell to 1-10 at home on the season.

Lakewood starter Tyson Brummett pitched seven innings, allowing two runs and eight hits. Brummett walked two Legends and struck out three batters. Moises Melendez pitched a scoreless eighth inning and Joseph Rocchio retired the Legends in order to close out the game.

The BlueClaws started the scoring in the first inning when their first two batters reached on consecutive throwing errors from Legends third baseman Craig Corrado. Derrick Mitchell scored on Michael Taylor's groundout.

Lakewood added three more runs in the fourth. They were aided by two more Lexington errors in the inning, this time from pitcher Anthony Bello and shortstop Ronald Ramirez.

The Legends added a run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly from Ramirez that scored Kevin Carkeek. Lexington scored its second run in the seventh when Matthew Cusick doubled home Nick Moresi.

Lakewood scored a single run in the seventh on a single from Travis Mattair. The BlueClaws scored their final run of the evening in the eighth on Durant's home run.

Lexington second baseman Matt Cusick continued his hot hitting by collecting three base knocks in the game, raising his average to .385. The Legends committed five fielding miscues in the game to raise their season total to 40.

The two teams will square off in game two Friday at 7:05 p.m.
