Greenville Drive News Release

Greenville, SC - For the second consecutive day, the Drive received one of the Boston Red Sox' top prospects. Outfielder Ryan Kalish will join the roster today after beginning the season at Extended Spring Training.

Like Oscar Tejeda, who the Drive received yesterday, Kalish stayed in Fort Myers, Florida after Spring Training broke to rehab from an ailment. The 2007 9th round selection saw his first professional season cut short when he broke the hammate bone in his right wrist on July 16th.

At the time of his injury, Kalish was batting .368 (32-for-87) for the Lowell Spinners, leading the New York-Penn League in runs (27) and stolen bases (18). In addition he was the reigning league Player of the Week after going 12-for-15 (.800) with three doubles, two homers, five RBI, six runs scored, and four steals in four games from July 9-15.

En route to being named a New York-Penn League All-Star, Kalish tied a Spinners franchise record when he reached base safely in 11 consecutive plate appearances from July 12-14.

Kalish is rated by Baseball America as the number six prospect, number four position player, in the Red Sox system.

With the addition of Kalish, the Drive are now at the 25-man active roster limit in the South Atlantic League. The Drive played yesterday's game with 24 active players after outfielder Josh Reddick was promoted to the Lancaster JetHawks on Tuesday.

The Drive resume their three-game series with the visiting Asheville Tourists tonight with first pitch set for 7:05 PM. Thursday is also $1 Drink Night, where fans can purchase 12-ounce Coca-Cola products at any of the concession stands, or those over 21 can purchase draft specials in the Spinx 500 Club for just a buck!
