Osceola Magic News Release
The Lakeland Magic dedicated the month of January to youth basketball, one of the organizations five community pillars. The Magic shared the importance of youth sports across the Polk County community by participating in multiple initiatives throughout the month.
On January 15, Lakeland Magic players and staff visited four Polk County schools and surprised 500 students with a full-size Orlando Magic basketball. Those that received a basketball attended the Lakeland Magic School Day game the following day. The students that attend this game include those that excel in the classroom as well as those with great attendance throughout the school year. The Lakeland Magic School Day game featured Polk County students within game entertainment and activities while bringing to life STEM education through basketball.
On January 18, the Lakeland Magic hosted Youth Basketball Night presented by RP Funding. The first 500 kids in attendance received a full-size Orlando Magic basketball at the door. Following the game, the Lakeland Magic teamed up with The National Basketball Academy to host a free youth basketball clinic for all youth under 18 years old. Coaches taught the students skills and drills to encourage their love of the sport.
On Saturday, February 8, Lakeland Magic Head Coach, Stan Heath and players will be hosting a free youth basketball clinic at the AdventHealth Fieldhouse, the new practice facility of the Lakeland Magic. This clinic will teach students basic basketball skills through an interactive experience. Simultaneously, the Positive Coaching Alliance will be hosting a seminar for the parents and guardians called The Second Goal Parenting. This seminar will help coach parents into being the best role models for their student-athletes. In sports, winning is the first goal but teaching life lessons through youth sports is the second goal. For more information about both clinics visit lakelandmagic.com/basketballclinic.
