July 25, 2019 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Los Angeles FC News Release
The Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) returns to Banc of California Stadium on Friday, July 26 as the Club hosts reigning MLS Cup champions, Atlanta United FC in the first and only regular season meeting of the year. The Week 21 matchup is slated for 7:00 p.m. PT and will be broadcast on ESPN, ESPN 710 AM, and 980 AM "La Mera Mera'.
Last week, LAFC dropped its third regular season contest of the season following a 3-2 loss against the Galaxy at Dignity Health Sports Park. After his two-goal performance, forward Carlos Vela became the fourth player in MLS history to record at least 20 goals and 10 assists in one season, and the fastest player ever to score 20 goals to start a campaign.
Meanwhile, Atlanta United comes into the game riding a two-game winning streak following home wins over Houston Dynamo and D.C. United. On the road, Atlanta has earned three wins from 10 matches, with its last away victory taking place on May 15 - a 1-0 win over Vancouver Whitecaps FC.
Tomorrow's contest will mark Atlanta's second game of the year at Banc of California Stadium after the two teams battled to a 2-2 draw in preseason play on February 11. Last season, Atlanta handed LAFC what remains its worst defeat in Club history - a 5-0 loss on April 7 at Mercedes Benz Stadium.
