March 11, 2021 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
LA Galaxy News Release
LOS ANGELES - The LA Galaxy announced today that the club has signed French midfielder Samuel Grandsir from AS Monaco in France's Ligue 1 using Targeted Allocation Money (TAM). Grandsir, 24, joins the club on a three-year contract with an additional one-year option after making 115 appearances in France's top-flight division while representing French sides Troyes, Monaco, Strasbourg and Brest since his professional debut in 2016. He will be added to the club's roster pending receipt of his P-1 Visa and International Transfer Certificate (ITC). Grandsir will occupy an International roster spot on the LA Galaxy roster.
"Samuel is an attack-minded, talented player who will strengthen our roster," said LA Galaxy General Manager Dennis te Kloese. "He has demonstrated to be an outstanding and talented player in a very respected and competitive league. We are confident he will show his potential and are excited to watch him grow even more and have him become an important part of our roster. We look forward to him joining our squad and integrating Samuel to the team."
In all, Grandsir made 131 total appearances, scored 12 goals and added 11 assists across all competitions for Troyes, Monaco, Strasbourg and Brest, including featuring in UEFA Champions League, League 1, Coupe de France, Coupe de la Ligue and Ligue 2, among others. He joins the Galaxy after most recently representing Stade Brestois 29 on loan since 2019, where he tallied five goals and added an assist.
The French midfielder debuted with ES Troyes AC in 2016 after playing for the club's second team in previous years. While with Troyes, Grandsir made 77 appearances and tallied six goals and nine assists in three seasons. In 2018, he signed with AS Monaco in France's Ligue 1, where he went on to make 18 appearances - including three in the UEFA Champions League - before two loan spells at Strasbourg and Brest.
Internationally, the wide midfielder appeared for the French U-21 National Team in 2017 and 2018, where he appeared in UEFA European Under-21 Championship Qualifying matches.
Grandsir signs with the LA Galaxy following the club's signings of defender Derrick Williams (Blackburn Rovers F.C.), midfielder Carlos Harvey (Tauro F.C.), defender Oniel Fisher (free agent), defender Jorge Villafaña (Portland Timbers), goalkeeper Jonathan Bond (West Bromwich Albion F.C.), defender Marcus Ferkranus (LA Galaxy Academy), midfielder Adam Saldaña (LA Galaxy Academy), defender Jalen Neal (LA Galaxy Academy) and the signing of goalkeeper Jonathan Klinsmann to a new contract.
