Postgame Quotes

LA GALAXY HEAD COACH GUILLERMO BARROS SCHELOTTOac

On what he's most proud of after tonight's performance:

"I think I am very proud of the players. Everyone, not just the players that were in the starting eleven, but the whole roster because everyone worked very hard after some games when we couldn't get points in Orlando and we were a little frustrated after that. But we are working very hard to get to this present. We going very good, we are happy with the team that's playing at a wonderful level. In the second half the level was so high, and we beat a big team. It's a derby and we have a lot of respect for them. We recognize they are really good; they have very good players and a really good coach. Today we beat them and we are very happy. I am very proud because the players worked really hard in bad moments where you can find sometimes some problems when you don't get good results. Everyone [has a good character], are really good professionals and I am happy for them."

On LAFC putting a lot of attention on Cristian Pavon and what the LA Galaxy had to do to adjust in the second half:

"They managed the ball in the first half better than us. We had two chances on goal, when [Ethan] Zubak found the ball inside the box and fell. And another one, when [Cristian] Pavon had a one on one against [Latif] Blessing and he fell. When you analyze the options they had, I think only had one real chance when Rolf [Feltscher] played back and played bad, because the others ones were offside because the backline was working really good, in line, waiting for the moment to stop or to go on step ahead and allow them to get on offside. The reality is they managed better than us in the first half. In the second half, we talked about that, we talked about the pressure, we needed to get better, because sometimes the center backs moved the ball with [Francisco] Ginella and we couldn't catch them and then I think that after that every player's individual performance got better and they played really good in the second half."

On David Bingham's play tonight:

"He answered really well on the first half when he had to act. He was very focused and had been on the team working. When you are watching Galaxy, maybe you are waiting for something from [Cristian] Pavon, from Jonathan [Dos Santos] or Sebastian [Lletget], but today he was in the correct moment in the first half and he gave a lot of security to keep playing and he was there. I am happy for him."

On half-time message to team:

"I said we need to correct something in the pressure, we talked about the goal we scored against Portland where we made 16 touches. Even if you watch the play when [Ethan] Zubak missed the goal, we touched the ball a lot too. So, we talked about the pressure, that we need to manage the ball and when we get the ball we need to touch - short passes and then maybe someone had to do a long pass, but we needed to get the ball because the option will appear if we get the ball and make movements. I said that. Obviously I recognize that in the first half they manage the ball better than us but I was very confident with the team because the team is going and getting a lot of confidence about themselves."

LA GALAXY MIDFIELDER SEBASTIAN LLETGET

On his second goal:

"It's something that you always dream about. It's the perfect looping ball set perfectly for you. You hope you connect good on it and thankfully it did. When it hit the back of the net, it was a dream. Especially in a clasico or a rivalry game, it makes it even more crazy."

On the offence:

"I just think we weren't utilizing our creativity as much. Obviously, it makes it easier, too, when you've got someone like Pavon, who is so dynamic, so creative and can make something out of nothing. And we follow his lead in so many ways. I connect really well with him, but more than anything, with time as a team, we're learning a lot more about each other and getting a lot more chemistry. Even though in the first half, we probably could have been better. A little more organized. We stayed in the game and physically, we just outran them."

On the free kick, whether they have scored on it before:

"We work on a lot of stuff, a lot of different types of things and it was just a good opportunity to pull something out of our hat. Thankfully it worked out just the way we planned it. I thought the timing was great, a perfect ball from Pavon and I thought he was excellent. He's been amazing for us. Credit to him."

LA GALAXY DEFENDER DANIEL STERES

On the switch to success against LAFC the last two games:

"I think today, we probably got a little luckier than the first time. Both teams had some chances in the first half, and we just took ours in the second. Overall, we've just been more organized, more compact trying to keep our lines tight and there's a lot of communication across the backline. Between all of us, I think everyone stepped up to the plate, no matter who is playing. It's been a whole team effort."

On the belief within the team:

"I think something we talked about when we got back was a mentality change. Obviously, Orlando did not go well for us, in some of the games it felt like our mentality was weak or we might have given in to the circumstances a little bit. The LAFC game [in Orlando] was one where we played 70 minutes on them, gave them a couple chances and then just broke down. We knew we needed to change that, to step back and start all over. You could call that trust in the coaches, but I think they've looked at themselves as well and changed things going forward. All together, I think we looked in the mirror, accepted what happened and knew we all had to change from the way we were playing, the mentality and the trust from the group."

On the first half vs. the second half and what the team discussed at halftime:

"The first half, we definitely could have given up a couple goals and we had a couple chances as well. To come out of that 0-0 was a little surprising, but we knew that was good for us. They changed how they played a little bit and we probably weren't ready enough for it, and we gave them a little too much space behind... It almost cost us there and Bingham came up huge early in the game and we needed that... We just knew the second half we couldn't give up that space, we had to be a little tighter and press up on their midfielders. I think that helped, obviously, getting the goal early was huge and then the red card kind of changed the game. I think being able to adapt to what they were trying to do in that first half we talked about at halftime definitely helped."

LA GALAXY MIDFIELDER CRISTIAN PAVON

On team's mentality change in the second half:

"We knew it was going to be a difficult game, a very compact game. You could tell in the first half both teams were pressuring. They had chances and they couldn't convert them. Then we came out second half with more confidence, we knew we needed to win this game. Then my goal happened, then they had the red card and as minutes passed, we felt better, with more confidence and we were able to get the other goals."

On what has changed within the team compared to the team that played in Orlando:

"The attitude, we knew we had to win every game we played. We knew we had to put the Galaxy in good standing. We knew we had to move forward and luckily; we're doing that. We are doing the best we can. Like I said before, we are going step by step and getting the wins which is what we were lacking and luckily we are getting them and moving forward like we wanted."

On his goal and whether the recent and victories can erase the game against LAFC in Orlando:

"Regarding my goal I think that the only option I had was to chip him and thankfully the keeper came off his line, because if he hadn't come off his line, I wouldn't have had an angle. I didn't have any other option than to chip it. In regards to the team, we have two wins against them, one at their stadium and one here and we're really happy as a team. Thankful to my teammates who left it all on the field. Everyone left everything on the field, and we were able to get a second win against them."
