LA Galaxy Battle to 0-0 Draw with San Jose in Reserve League Play

Carson, Calif. - The LA Galaxy and San Jose Earthquakes played to a physical 0-0 draw in MLS Reserve League action at StubHub Center on Sunday afternoon. Brian Rowe and David Bingham kept a clean sheet for the Galaxy and Earthquakes respectively with each goalkeeper being saved at different times by their goalposts as well.

With the draw, the Galaxy are now unbeaten in their last six Reserve League games, going 4-0-2 in that time. They are now 4-1-3 on the season with two games remaining, including one next weekend against Colorado. San Jose are now 3-4-1 on the season.

In the opening 45 minutes, the Galaxy controlled the play and looked the most likely to score. Jose Villarreal and Jack McBean helped create a pair of early chances, including one that Michael Stephens fired over the bar from the edge of the penalty area. In the 22nd minute, the Galaxy forced their first save from Bingham as Villarreal played Colin Clark in on the left, only for the San Jose goalkeeper to parry away Clark's low drive. A few minutes later, Clark got on the end of a Laurent Courtois cross only to see his shot strike the outside of the post, sending the two sides into the half tied 0-0.

After the break, it was San Jose that came out the more aggressive of the two sides, with Shea Salinas going close in the 50th minute and then helping to set up a wild sequence just after the hour mark. In the 64th minute, a Salinas cross found Adam Jahn inside the area, only for his looping header to carom off the far post. The rookie forward was first to react to the rebound, only for Brian Rowe to touch Jahn's second effort off the other post. The ball would eventually fall to Jaime Aras in the center of the box, but his goal bound shot was headed off the line, keeping the game scoreless.

The game opened up over the final 25 minutes, though neither side was able to make a breakthrough. Rafael Garcia, Chandler Hoffman, Charlie Rugg and Raul Mendiola each had chances for the home side while San Jose's forward pairing of Jahn and Sam Garza created chances for the visitors, though the game would end scoreless.

The Galaxy will be back in action at home on Sunday, September 8 when they host Colorado (12 p.m. at StubHub Center) while San Jose will be back in action on Monday, September 30 against Chivas USA.
