Green Bay Rockers News Release
Frogville, WI - Green Bay's pitching staff rebounded well on Saturday evening after walking 13 runners on Friday. Cory Kyle tossed six shutout innings in his second start of the year. Adam Cimber threw three innings for his first save of the summer while striking out five and allowing just one hit to win 3-0 win against the Waterloo Bucks at Joannes Stadium. Green Bay keeps pace in the Northwoods League's South Division. They are in a three-way tie for second place, just two games back of the Madison Mallards with four games left in the first half.
Green Bay's offense was lead by Paul Hoenecke on Saturday who went 2-4 with a pair of RBI. The 'Frogs' pounded out nine hits in the ball game. The Bullfrogs squandered some early chances. David Popkins and Jacob May both reached to begin the bottom of the first inning. With Popkins on third base, May stole second to put two in scoring position with no outs. Bucks starter Jared Lamacchia retired the next three hitters to keep the game scoreless. The 'Frogs also had a runner at third with less than two outs in the third inning, but he was stranded as well.
The Bullfrogs finally got on the board in the fourth. Mitch Haniger lead the inning off with a single. Hoenecke drove in Haniger from first on a double down the right field line to give Green Bay a 1-0 lead. The 'Frogs tacked on two more runs in the fifth inning on four consecutive singles. With two outs Jacob May began the string of hits with an infield hit. McAlpine followed that up with a single of his own before May came in to score from third on a bunt base hit by Mitch Haniger. Paul Hoenecke drove in his second run of the game with another single to give the Green Bay Bullfrogs a 3-0 lead over the Waterloo Bucks.
The Bullfrogs pitching staff allowed just three hits in the ball game. Only two base runners reached second base for the Bcuks in the ball game. Cory Kyle earned the win. Adam Cimber earned the save. The finale of the two-game series is on Sunday afternoon at Joannes stadium beginning at 1:05pm.
