Stingers rally past Lunkers

(Brainerd Lakes Area) - The Willmar Stingers rallied from a 2-1 deficit to score three runs in the Top of the 8th to defeat the Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers 4-3 Saturday night at Mills Field.

It was John Haberman's two-run single with the bases loaded that brought home the first two Stingers run of the inning. After being caught in a rundown initally, Pat Stover scored the third run of the inning after the ball came out of the glove of Lunkers catcher Jon Crist.

The Lunker would tack on one more run when a Dan Olinger groundout brought home Matt Hillsinger from 3rd base. In the Bottom of the 9th, with Kurt Spomer on to close for Willmar and Steven Brault at 2nd base, Tommy Reyes lined out to the shortstop and Brault was doubled off second base to end the game.

Vince Bruno, in his 2011 Lunker debut, collected two RBIs on the night.

Jason Forjet, who took a no decision for the Lunkers, had another fantastic outing. He pitched seven innings, giving up one run and striking out eight.

Thomas Taylor gets the win for the Stingers. He was equally as impressive, throwing seven innings, giving up two runs and striking out five.

Tyler Sparger, who came in to the game in relief of Forjet, takes the loss as he falls to (3-1). Spomer records his fourth save for Willmar.

With the loss the Lunkers fall to (16-10), currently two games back of Mankato in the North Divison. The Stingers improve to (16-12), three games back in the North.

The Lunkers are back in action against Willmar on Sunday afternoon. First pitch is set for 1:05. Charlie Henderson gets the start for the Lunkers against John Haberman for Willmar.
