June 12, 2018 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
Ottawa Champions News Release

OTTAWA - For the second straight week, a Champions pitcher has been tagged with the Can-Am League's Pointstreak pitcher of the week honours.

RHP Jordan Kurokawa earns the award after his Saturday night shutout of the Salina Stockade, in which he scattered three hits and just one walk over his nine full innings of work.

It was just the third complete-game shutout in Champions franchise history - the Honolulu native joins a distinguished list that includes RHP Phillippe Aumont and RHP Wilmer Font.

The first-year member of the Champions is now 1-2 with a 3.73 ERA over his four starts. He owns 18 strikeouts to just two walks in 21.2 innings of work.

Kurokawa is in the midst of his first season in the Can-Am League, but second in independent baseball. He logged a 7-4 record and 2.53 ERA in 2017, pitching for the Frontier League's Lake Erie Crushers. Kurokawa struck out 79 opposing hitters in 2017 over 117.1 innings.

The Champions now engage in a six-game road trip starting Tuesday, with a three-game set versus the Quebec Capitales. The team will then travel to Sussex County to play the Miners on the weekend.

When Ottawa returns home, the international series also returns to RCGT Park! Ottawa plays Team Dominican Republic June 19-21, with the Caribbean team re-joining the Can-Am League for a second season. Tickets for this series and the rest of the Champions schedule are available at www.ottawachampions.com, or by calling 613-745-BALL (2255).
