Krieger Captures USHL Attention
January 20, 2014 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Waterloo, Iowa-The Waterloo Black Hawks' leading scorer had one of the top performances is the United States Hockey League last weekend, and for his efforts, Peter Krieger was named the USHL co-CCM Forward of the Week on Monday.
Krieger played a leading role as the Black Hawks won twice on the road. Visiting the Youngstown Phantoms on Friday, the Oakdale, Minnesota native assisted on two first period power play goals, then recorded Waterloo's only even-strength tally of the night on a rebound chance early in the second. The Hawks held on for a 4-3 victory. Then Saturday against the U.S. National Team Development Program Under-18's, Kreiger broke a scoreless deadlock during a power play with 7.8 seconds remaining in the second period. The tally set Waterloo off towards a 2-1 victory.
After leading the Aberdeen Wings of the North American Hockey League with 54 points in 59 games last year, Krieger is halfway to a similar accomplishment in this USHL during 2013/14. The University of Alaska recruit now has 34 points in 33 games, most among the Black Hawks and tied for tenth in the USHL. Krieger's 120 shots on goal are the most on the team, and his +18 plus/minus mark ranks second. Consistency has been the 20-year-old's trademark; after being held without a point during the first two games of the season, Krieger has not since gone scoreless during consecutive games.
Cedar Rapids RoughRiders veteran Andrew Poturalski was the league's other co-CCM Forward of the Week.
Krieger's award comes on the heels of Tyler Sheehy and Liam Pecararo being co-CCM Forwards of the Week January 6th and 13th respectively. This is the fifth consecutive week a Black Hawk has won one of the USHL's three weekly honors and the 11th time overall during the 2013/14 campaign.
