February 3, 2014 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Waterloo, Iowa-For the seventh consecutive week, a Waterloo Black Hawk has earned one of the United States Hockey League's weekly awards, and this time the Hawks double-dipped as Peter Krieger and Brandon Montour were each honored on Monday.
Krieger is the USHL's CCM Forward of the Week. Now leading the Black Hawks in both goals (18) and points (40) this season, he scored twice Friday versus the Muskegon Lumberjacks, then put the puck in the net twice more Saturday while the Hawks hosted the Sioux City Musketeers. Waterloo won the games 5-1 and 7-0 respectively. Adding two more goals on January 25th against the Fargo Force, the Oakdale, Minnesota, native has scored six times in his last three appearances. The effort pushed Krieger to seventh in overall USHL scoring, tied with J.J. Piccinich of the Youngstown Phantoms. Krieger was also +3 last weekend. Next season, the 20-year-old will attend the University of Alaska. He was previously the co-Forward of the Week on January 20th.
Montour won CCM Defenseman of the Week honors outright this week after splitting the award last Monday. It is the third time this year that Montour has been recognized by the league. The Oshweken, Ontario, native was stellar, recording three assists in each game, while posting a team-high +5 plus/minus rating. Montour notched one of his assists on the power play, two while shorthanded, and three at even strength. Currently the USHL's highest-scoring defenseman, Montour ranks tied for eleventh overall among all players with 37 points this season. Saturday was his 15th consecutive game with at least one point, giving him the longest streak of its kind in the league this season. Montour is committed to the University of Massachusetts.
A Black Hawk has now won a league award 14 times during the current season. Cal Petersen and Mark Friedman join Krieger and Montour as multiple-week winners.
