Indiana Ice News Release
SPLITTING HAIRS: Indy remains on top of the Eastern Conference after splitting a pair of contests against Team USA on Thursday and the Muskegon Lumberjacks on Saturday. Hayden Stewart logged 33 saves on 34 shots en route to a 4-1 win in his Pan Am Pavilion debut against Team USA on Thursday. Denis Smirnov (G, A) and Austin Kosack (2A) each recorded multiple-point nights while Dwyer Tschantz, Joshua Jacobs and Jason Salvaggio also scored in the effort. Tschantz's second goal of the weekend would be the only goal scored on Saturday as the Ice fell to the Lumberjacks 2-1 from L.C. Walker Arena. Jason Pawloski stopped 24 shots between the pipes.
ONE-ON-ONE: Ice forward Jason Salvaggio snapped a long-standing streak during Thursday's game against Team USA as the Hanson, MA-native posted Indy's first successful penalty shot since the 2008-2009 Clark Cup championship season. His stick-side attempt was the first successful penalty shot since Ben Albertson beat Fargo Force netminder Mike Lee in the Ice's 3-1 win over the Force on October 10, 2008.
SEEING RED: Ice forward Dwyer Tschantz has been running up the electric bill as the Cornell University commit has goals in six of his past seven games, registering tallies in both contests last weekend. Through 29 games with the Ice this season, the Wilmington, DE-native sits second on the team in goals scored (13) and is tied for first in game-winning goals (4).
NEW VETS ON THE BLOCK: Two USHL transactions brought two veterans to the Ice roster in goaltender Hayden Stewart and defenseman Ryan Mantha. Stewart, in his second USHL season, has won all three starts in net for Indiana which includes a 1.00 GAA and a .953 save percentage. The 6-5, 225-pound Mantha made his Ice debut this past weekend and provides more size to the Ice blue line to go along with over 80 games of USHL game experience.
