Omaha Lancers News Release

RALSTON, NE - In a trade with the Muskegon Lumberjacks, the Omaha Lancers acquired a pair of Nebraska-Omaha recruits, defenseman Luc Snuggerud and forward Steven Spiller, in exchange for one first round selection in the 2014 USHL Phase I Draft, the team announced Monday. Both Eden Prairie, Minnesota natives, Snuggerud and Spiller are ranked #61 and #70 respectively, in the NHL Central Scouting Service's 2014 mid-season rankings of North American skaters.

"We're extremely pleased to make this addition to our roster," said Lancers Head Coach and General Manager Brian Kaufman on Monday. "Both Luc and Steven are promising young players that we believe will be able to contribute in this league."

A 6'0", 196 lb., right-handed forward, Spiller currently leads the Eden Prairie High School Eagles with 15 goals and 33 points in 21 games played this year while Snuggerud, a left-handed, 6'0", 180 lb. defenseman ranks second on the Eagles in scoring with seven goals and 31 total points this season. Snuggerud and Spiller are currently in the midst of their senior seasons at Eden Prairie, currently the ninth-ranked team in Minnesota's "AA" statewide rankings, and are expected to join the Lancers mid-way through the month of March, at the conclusion of their high school campaign.

In order to free up the necessary roster space to acquire Snuggerud and Spiller, the Lancers announced Monday that they've waived veteran winger, Union College recruit and assistant captain Tyler Hynes, a decision that Kaufman says, was not taken lightly. "Today is a very difficult day," said Kaufman, "Tyler is a leader, a terrific teammate and an even better person and we wish him nothing but the best going forward. This was just a situation where we had an opportunity to improve our team and we had to take it."

Next up for the Lancers, it's a Friday showdown with the Sioux Falls Stampede at Ralston Arena with the opening faceoff set for 7:05 pm. All fans in attendance will receive complimentary "Thunder Sticks", courtesy of Subway. Full coverage of Friday's game begins with the "Valpak Pregame Show" at 6:50 pm on the Lancers' flagship station, "The Mighty" 1290 KOIL with Lancers broadcaster Tony Brown providing the play-by-play.
