Krauth Delivers Solid Performance as Missions Even up Series with Corpus Christi

SAN ANTONIO - The Missions bounced back from Friday night's loss with a productive game on Saturday night. The offense batted around in the bottom of the first inning and scored four runs. San Antonio added three more runs throughout the evening. Despite a comeback attempt from the Hooks, the Missions evened up the series with a 7-4 victory.

Jaime Melendez was the starting pitcher for the Corpus Christi Hooks. The 20-year-old struggled with his command failed to make it out of the first inning. San Antonio plated four runs while collecting just two hits. The Missions loaded the bases after Melendez issued walks to Connor Hollis, Thomas Milone, and Domingo Leyba. Hollis scored the first run of the game on a balk. Webster Rivas drove in two runs with a single to right field. After issuing another walk, Melendez was replaced with Franny Cobos. Cobos allowed an RBI single to Juan Fernandez to make it a 4-0 Missions lead.

Ben Krauth was the starting pitcher for the Missions. After a scoreless first inning, the Hooks plated their first run of the game in the top of the second inning. Alex McKenna legged out a triple to start off the inning. After a walk and a strikeout, C.J. Stubbs drove in McKenna with a double to left field. The Hooks trailed 4-1.

San Antonio improved their lead in the bottom of the second inning. Hollis began the inning with a single and Milone hit a double. Leyba drove in Hollis with a sacrifice fly. Milone came around to score on an RBI single from Rodriguez. The Missions improved their lead to 6-1.

The Missions used the long ball to add their seventh run of the game in the bottom of the third inning. With two outs in the inning, Chandler Seagle hit a line drive home run over the left field wall. His third long ball of the season made it a 7-1 ballgame.

Krauth looked sharp for the Missions in his third appearance with the club. The southpaw allowed one run on three hits in four innings of work. He struck out five batters while issuing one walk. He was replaced by Henry Henry in the top of the fifth inning.

Henry tossed a scoreless fifth inning but struggled with his command in the sixth inning. He loaded the bases after issuing walks to McKenna, Grae Kessinger, and Jordan Brewer. Fred Schlichtholz replaced Henry on the mound. After retiring the next two batters, a single from Wilyer Abreu plated two runs for the Hooks to cut the deficit to 7-3.

Corpus Christi continued their comeback attempt in the top of the seventh inning. After allowing a single and recording a strikeout, Schlichtholz was replaced by Carlos Belen. The right-hander recorded the second out of the inning before allowing an RBI single to Kessinger. The base hit cut the deficit to 7-4.

Angel Felipe came on to pitch the ninth inning. He allowed a lead-off single to Joe Perez. Felipe struck out Justin Dirden before allowing a single to Will Wagner. Both runners advanced into scoring position as McKenna bounced into a ground out. With two runners in scoring position and two outs, Kessinger lined out to end the game. Felipe converted his 11th save in 13 attempts.

The San Antonio Missions will wrap-up their three-game homestand with the Corpus Christi Hooks on Sunday, July 24th. Right-hander Brandon Komar (0-3, 7.88) is scheduled to pitch for the Missions. Right-hander Jose Bravo (3-3, 5.17) is scheduled to pitch for the Hooks. First pitch is expected at 6:05 p.m. from Nelson Wolff Stadium.
