
Kranick Strikes out Career-Best Nine Batters in 4-1 Loss

CHARLESTON, WV - Max Kranick fanned a career-best nine batters over 5.1 innings, but West Virginia allowed four runs over the final four innings and dropped a 4-1 contest to the Delmarva Shorebirds Monday night at Appalachian Power Park.
Kranick ceded just four hits and one run over his 5.1 innings of work. He struck out four batters in a row twice and set down 10 Shorebirds in a row from the final out in the second through the end of the fifth inning.
West Virginia (12-12, 49-41) snapped DL Hall's scoreless streak at 17.1 innings in the bottom of the second with two outs. After Deon Stafford led off the inning with a double over Kirvin Moesquit's head, Jesse Medrano knocked him in with a single for a 1-0 lead.
Hall (2-5) ultimately spun six innings and surrendered just one more hit, a fifth-inning infield single to Oneil Cruz, while striking out a career-high 10 batters.
The Shorebirds (16-9, 51-41) tied the game in the top of the sixth inning. Moesquit led off the inning with a walk. He then stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error from Stafford. Two batters later, Cadyn Grenier brought him in with a base hit.
After tying the game at one in the sixth, Delmarva took a 2-1 lead in the seventh. Will Robertson and Ben Breazeale each stroked a single against Beau Sulser (4-5) with two down. Moesquit then popped one up into shallow left that Cruz dropped, allowing Robertson to score.
Delmarva put the game away with two runs in the ninth via RBI singles from Breazeale and Moesquit against Elvis Escobar. Max Knutson (S, 1) tossed the final three innings for the 'Birds, fanning three batters to secure his first save of the season.
West Virginia wraps up its four-game series with Delmarva Tuesday afternoon at 12:05 p.m. at Appalachian Power Park. RHP Hunter Stratton (3-3, 5.56 ERA) toes the rubber for the Power, while the Shorebirds counter with righty Jhon Peluffo (3-4, 5.95 ERA).
