Long Island Ducks News Release

Central Islip, NY– East Meadow native Kris Kozlowski may have had to wait until his eleventh game of the 2004 season to receive a decision, but it was worth it. Kozlowski kept Newark scoreless through seven and two-thirds innings on Wednesday evening, as the Long Island Ducks shutout the Bears by a score of 9-0 in front of 6,170 fans at Citibank Park. The win lifts the Ducks record to 24-15, good for a one-and-a-half game lead over the Bridgeport Bluefish in the Atlantic League's North Division.

Kozlowski (1-0) struck out two and walked two while allowing just six hits. The only time he was forced to pitch out of a jam, he did so in fine fashion, retiring Rickey Henderson and Jerson Perez in the fifth after the Bears had put runners on second and third with one out in a 1-0 game.

After the Ducks tacked on a run in the sixth to make it 2-0, Kozlowski retired five of the next six batters he faced before a single by Newark's Keith Maxwell ended his evening. Bill Simas relieved Kozlowski and immediately ended the inning on a groundout.

In the bottom of the eighth, the Long Island offense exploded, plating seven runs in the frame. Leading the string of eighth inning offensive highlights was Kimera Bartee's grand slam shot to left. The home run was Bartee's team-leading tenth of the season.

The Ducks go for the sweep of the Bears on Thursday evening at 7:05 p.m. Long Island southpaw Bill Pulsipher (5-1) will take the hill for the Ducks and will be opposed by Newark RHP Clint Smith (2-2) in a game that will be broadcast live on Cablevision Channel 18. The first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive Mini Bats, courtesy of Bethpage Federal Credit Union and Island 94.3. Great tickets for this and all Ducks home games remain available by calling 1-888-332-5600, by logging on to www.liducks.com and clicking on the tickets icon, or by visiting the Citibank Park box office.
