Bridgeport, CTâ The Bridgeport Bluefish defeated the Somerset Patriots, 12-1, in front of 2,435 fans at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard.
Jamie Gann hit his sixth homerun of the season with the bases empty in the bottom of the first to put the Bluefish up 1-0 early. The Patriots quickly tied the game at 1-1 as Jeff Nettles scored from third on a sacrifice fly to center field by designated hitter Tony Gsell.
A two run triple by Gustavo Escobar put the Bluefish up 3-1 in the bottom of the third. Jose Amado singled to right field to score Escobar to put the âFish up 4-1. The Bluefish increased their lead in the bottom of the sixth inning as a throwing error by Patriots first baseman Paul Ottavinia allowed Jamie Gann to score for the second time. Gann reached base on a balk by Somerset pitcher, Mike Spiegel.
Will Pennyfeather hit a three run homerun over the right center field wall to put the Bluefish up seven in the bottom of the sixth. The âFish continued their offensive effort as two additional runs scored for Bridgeport later in the inning. With bases loaded in the seventh inning the Bluefish scored again as Keith Lu'uloa crossed home as Eddie Lara was walked. Rolo Avila then singled to short center field to score Pennyfeather.
Tim Cain went seven innings for the Bluefish in his fifth win of the season giving up one run on five hits while walking four and striking out five. Blake Williams came in for the âFish in relief in the eighth inning. Richard Bell pitched the ninth for Bridgeport.
The Bluefish continue their best of three game series against the Somerset Patriots on Wednesday with a 7:05 p.m. start.
