Augusta Lynx News Release

Sunday was another one of those games that the Augusta Lynx thought they did enough to win, but they were denied yet again by a stellar goaltending performance from the Gladiators Craig Kowalski who stole the show with 44 saves in a 2-1 loss for the Lynx on Sunday at the James Brown Arena.

The Gladiators got the game off to a fast start with the game's first two goals. The first came off of leading scorer's Jeff Campbell's stick as he got free on a 4 on 2 and roofed a shot over the glove of #1 Gerald Coleman for a 1-0 lead. The Lynx had four power plays in the 1st period, but could not make any of them count. During the fourth power play Chad Denny got free for the Gladiators, as he beat the backcheckers down the ice and took a pass in the slot and beat an outstretched Coleman for a shorthanded goal and a 2-0 Gladiators lead after the 1st period.

The 2nd and 3rd periods was all Lynx, as they outshot the Gladiators by an astonishing 33-5 in the final two periods, but the goaltender of Kowalski was the difference. In the 3rd, the Lynx hit two posts before getting a goal from #10 Chase Watson, who tipped home a drive from the point by #3 B.J. Crum putting the Lynx on the board. With Coleman pulled for the extra attacker at the end of the game, the Lynx mounted few offensive chances and ultimately fell, 2-1.

The Lynx went 0 for 7 on the power play, while the Gladiators were 0 for 3.
