
Condors drop first of two straight against Idaho in front of 6,842

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors suffered a 3-0 setback against the Idaho Steelheads in front of 6,842 fans at Rabobank Arena on Saturday night. Condors G Yutaka Fukufuji and Idaho G Matt Zaba both gave strong efforts, making 40 saves and 29 saves, respectively.
The Steelheads got on the board first with an opening-period goal from RW Lance Galbraith 8:11 into the game. Fukufuji made 24 saves and the Condors killed off four power plays in the first period alone, as they entered the intermission trailing, 1-0.
Although the Condors outshot the Steelheads, 12-7, in the second period, C Matt Craig added to Idaho's lead with his ninth of the year at 17:16, putting the Steelheads up, 2-0, through two periods.
Steelheads F Andrew Martin added to the Idaho lead with his 10th of the year at the 12:17 mark of the third period. Bakersfield had numerous scoring opportunities in the stanza, but Zaba stopped all 11 Condors shots, capping off his second shutout of the season. Fukufuji stopped 10 of the 11 shots he faced in the period, finishing with 40 saves on the night.
Notes from The Nest:
The Condors penalty kill held the Idaho power play, ranked 5th in the ECHL, to 0-for-6 on the night, including a five-minute major during the second period. D Martin Frechette and F Alexander Naurov, acquired on Tuesday, made their home debut tonight after joining the team on the road last week. D Derrick Byfuglien, also acquired on Tuesday, is expected to join the team next week.

The Condors continue March Monday Madness on Monday with Extinct Team Night. All fans wearing a jersey from a professional sports team that no longer exists will receive $1 admission to the game. Doors open at 6 p.m., puck drops at 7 p.m.
Also on Monday, the first 2,000 fans will receive a magnet of C Tim Konsorada, the second in a five- piece magnet giveaway series scheduled for each Monday in March. In addition, Monday's game will be an ABC23 and SC Architect Condors Classroom Champions Night, where students who achieve outstanding attendance levels and academic goals will receive a complimentary ticket to the game.
