Calgary, AB - The Kootenay Ice extended their winning streak to eight games with a 2-1 road win over the Calgary Hitmen Thursday.
Ice goaltender Todd Mathews made 27 saves in a first star performance.
Steele Boomer in the first period and Matt Fraser early in the third provided the Kootenay goals.
Giffen Nyren scored the lone Hitmen marker breaking the Mathews shutout bid with 2:41 remaining.
Calgary still leads the WHL's Central Division Standings with a record of 27-12-1-1. At 56 points they hold a one point lead over Medicine Hat and a four point bulge over Kootenay.
The Hitmen will wrap up their four game home stand Saturday night against the Vancouver Giants.
