Komets Split Western Double-Header; Gems Here Saturday

Fort Wayne, IN -- In review of last week t he Komets split a two-game stand at Arizona to finish week 15 of 2011-12 in second place in the CHL Turner Conference trailing first-place Evansville by two points. The Komets enter week 16 at 25-13-2 and 52 points after 40 games.

The Komets stopped the Sundogs 7-5 in the weekend western double-header opener Friday. Saturday the Komets completed their only trip of the season to Arizona with a 6-3 setback, snapping a three-game Fort Wayne road point streak. Arizona will make their only appearance of the season in Fort Wayne Friday, Feb. 24.

Komets of the week -Forward Chris Auger had points in each game totaling a goal and three assists during the Arizona trip. Also with points in each game were defenseman Frankie DeAngelis (1 goal, 2 assists), center Colin Chaulk (1 goal, 2 assists) and J.M. Rizk (1 goal, 1 assist).

Komet streaks -DeAngelis is riding a six-game point streak (3 goals, 4 assists) and three-game assist streak (3 assists). Rizk has points in three straight games (2 goals, 1 assist) and Auger has a three-game point streak (2 goals, 3 assists).

Boucher on the edge of 200 -Veteran goaltender Nick Boucher marked his 199th career win with a 25-save performance at Arizona Friday and moved to 199 Fort Wayne career games played with his two appearances last weekend (regular season).

After 40 -The Komets record of 25-13-2 and 52 points after 40 games this year is an improvement of eight wins and 13 points over their record after 40 games last year (17-18-5, 39 points). It is absolutely identical to the Komets' record after 40 games two years ago in the IHL. After 40 games, the Komets have 14 home games and 12 road games remaining.

Gettin' busy -the Komets are in the midst of a rare five-day layoff before starting a stretch of 15 games in 27 days for February. Five different teams will make February Fort Wayne appearances out of six Komet home games including the only visits of the season by Allen (Feb. 18, 977 miles) and Arizona (Feb. 24), which is the longest trip in the league at 1,819 miles. Bloomington will make two trips to town Feb. 17 and 29. The Komets will skate nine road games during the month including three trips in a row to Bloomington Feb. 12, 14 and 19. The K's will make their only trip of the season to Tulsa when they trek 766 miles to BOK Center Feb. 21.

GAMES THIS WEEK

- Friday at Quad City-- The Komets will get the February portion of 2011-12 underway when they travel to Quad City Friday for an 8:05pm ET faceoff at the i wireless Center in downtown Moline, Illinois. The Mallards (23-17-1, 47 points) are battling to keep playoff contention holding fourth place in the Turner Conference and trailing the second-place Komets by five points. Friday's match will be the fifth of nine meetings this season and the Komets' third of five trips to Quad City. The Komets stopped the Mallards 4-1 in the last meeting Jan. 22 at Quad City for a three-game win streak against Quad City. The Mallards are 2-5-0 in their last seven games and are idle until the Komets visit Friday.

- Gems invade Saturday -- The Komets return home to host the Dayton Gems Saturday at 7:30pm after a two-week absence while the Circus was at the Coliseum. It's the ninth of 14 meetings this season. The Komets hold a 6-2-0 series edge over Dayton after eight meetings. The Gems are 3-2-0 in their last five games and enter the week riding a two-game win string. Dayton (15-19-7, 37 points) trails fourth-place Quad City by 10 points and will host Rapid City Tuesday before traveling to Fort Wayne Saturday.

After this weekend the Komets will enjoy their final three-day layoff until mid March before skating 13 games in 22 days to complete the February docket.

INC Soundoff with the Komets Monday nights -- The Komets, I ndiana's News Center and title sponsor PHP present a live weekly televised sports program on Monday nights at 7:30 on WPTA TV 21 Alive. The half-hour show is televised live from Wrigley Field Bar and Grill each week with INC's Tommy Schoegler as host and will feature highlights, interviews and call-ins as Komet players and personnel serve as co-hosts.

TONIGHT, Jan. 30, forwards Jesse Bennefield and Bobby Chaumont will be special guests.

60th Anniversary Komet Hockey on WOWO -- The Komets and WOWO Radio News-Talk 1190 AM have partnered once again for 2011-12. Broadcaster Bob Chase will call the action for his 59th consecutive season radio-rinkside. All games broadcast on radio, home and away, can be heard online at Xfinity KometCast. Most games will be broadcast on WOWO Radio News-Talk 1190 AM with ESPN Radio AM 1380 as an alternative when scheduling conflicts occur.
